Australia: Unemployment Fell to 4.9% - 10.5.2012


The Australian dollar found support after falling yesterday to a 5-month low as the National Bureau of Statistics reported unexpectedly favorable employment figures for April. According to the press release, seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped from 5.2% to 4.9%, while the number of people employed increased by 15500, mainly due to a rise in part-time employment. The Australian currency touched yesterday its lowest level against the dollar since December 20 – 1.0020, but strengthened is Asian trading hours rising above 1.0100.
